RADiant™, Radiant, and RADIANT are used interchangeably to represent the same product.

What’s the difference between eBt and SRT?

Radiant Aura has been designed to deliver both superficial radiation therapy (SRT) and electronic brachytherapy (eBt therapy) treatments. Using different applicators, you can treat using eBt (skin source distance < 5cm), which is highly effective for smaller diameter, shallow treatments, or superficial radiation therapy (skin source distance > 10cm), which is more effective for larger diameter treatments.

Why are there two modalities?
The dual modality eBt and SRT system has been developed to maximize the treatment options you have for your patients, as well as reduce the costs to ensure your clinic can offer each patient the best treatment option.
What is the difference between Radiant Aura and other radiation therapy machines?

Radiant Aura has several advantages over most radiation therapy systems. Its unique delivery system ensures the safest low energy, high dose output which only penetrates the skin itself. Perfectly accurate delivery, thanks to the unique halo ring, means reduced dose to healthy skin tissue. This ensures the best outcome possible with the fewest side effects for every patient.

Does Radiant Aura require extra consumables or active radiation sources?

Unlike some other radiotherapy systems, Radiant Aura has been designed with the clinic in mind, so no consumables or active radiation sources are required during the products lifetime. The elimination of active radiation sources found in older high dose rate brachytherapy systems reduces both the installation costs, recurring system maintenance costs, and the regulatory costs associated with many radiotherapy systems commonly used to treat skin lesions.

What can I treat using Radiant Aura?

Radiant Aura is perfect for treating non-melanoma skin cancer such as basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. RADiant can also be used to treat keloid scarring.

What are the possible side effects?

Any side effects from skin radiation therapy are usually limited to the area receiving therapy. These can include skin irritation ranging from redness to peeling and scabbing, changes in skin color, and hair loss in the area being treated.

What are the success rates associated with radiotherapy?

Treatment with radiotherapy has a high rate of success. Radiation therapy for dermatology, including treatment for skin cancers using superficial radiotherapy is comparable to surgical excision with 90-95 percent effectiveness. Treatment of keloids, combined with a suitable surgical extraction, has a success rate of up to 94 percent.

What software does the system use?

Radiant Aura uses the award winning Xstrahl medical software, Concerto. Concerto has been designed to provide a comprehensive yet simple workflow for the creation of your patient’s treatment workload. X-ray therapy is utilized for a wide range of clinical conditions, each with its own unique patient prescription and treatment options. Concerto helps you manage your patients, providing a simple and easy method to creating and recalling patient treatment reports, which are automatically created following patient treatment. The software enables the ability to quickly create and recall patient treatments for delivery and allows the linking of images to each treatment field, providing a clinical record of all delivered exposures.

Is there treatment planning software?

Radiant Aura has been designed to be as user friendly as possible, so no complicated treatment planning software is required.

What are sized applicators are available?

Radiant Aura is supplied with 5 standard applicators, used in 1, 1.5, 2, 3, & 4 cm diameter with 5 & 6 cm FSD closed applicators, each with the halo ring.

Is the system time or monitor unit (MU) based?

Radiant Aura is time based and has been designed to be as user friendly as possible, eliminating the physicist requirements of MU based treatment delivery.

What is the purpose of the halo ring?

Radiant Aura’s unique illuminated halo ring guidance allows for optimal conformal treatment positioning, meaning an optimized workflow with repeatable safe treatment.

What are the room shielding requirements?

The room shielding requirements for eBt and SRT are low-cost and typically require very minimal shielding added to existing walls with no structural changes, but exact room modifications will depend on local regulatory requirements, local building codes, and your existing structure. An engineer will come to assess the best method of shielding for you.

What does the system come with?

Radiant Aura comes as either a turnkey solution, or as a base system that can be customized to meet your specific needs. Contact a local Xstrahl specialist to determine which is best for your practice.

How long is a typical treatment?

Treatment varies depending on condition and placement; however, most treatments are a matter of minutes. This may be repeated on a series of days – over a course of a week or month – depending on your patient’s condition.

What does a typical treatment involve?

Typically, a treatment will involve your patient sitting or lying in a comfortable position. The applicator is placed over the treatment area and turned on. After a few minutes your patient is free to leave. If your patient is having keloids treated, you will first need to schedule radiotherapy, and then follow-up surgery. Once the surgery is complete, but before it has healed, the patient will receive a course of radiation therapy directly over the wound.

Does Radiant Aura treatment scar or cause permanent damage?

Radiant Aura uses radiotherapy, not surgery, to treat conditions. As a result, it causes no permanent damage to the area. If you are receiving treatment for keloids, the radiotherapy will not cause additional scarring, and will not impair scar healing.

Will my patient need follow up treatments?

Radiotherapy is often applied over a series of treatments over several days, however once the course of treatments is over, your patient will not need to have follow up treatments outside of your patient’s normal office visits.
